Dirk Tsai
Dirk Tsai graduated with a Master's in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. In 2022, he was awarded the Chelsea Arts Club Trust Materials and Research Award for his postgraduate work.
His work explores and blurs traditional painting and installation art boundaries. Drawing inspiration from daily life, he transforms memory, process, and time into three-dimensional forms, deconstructing and examining their stillness, flow, repetition, and cessation moments. Through fragmented spaces, the melting of memories, and the ebb and flow of time, he seeks to reveal a new way of observing the world.
He is inspired by <Queer Phenomenology: Orientations, objects, others>. He delves into his own identity and energy through his creations, adopting the concept of "orientation" mentioned in the book to connect with the world. This idea permeates his work as he explores our ever-changing lives’ dynamic yet seemingly static characteristics. His pieces showcase the persistence and interruptions within these elements while documenting the objective and subjective images of environment, space, structure, and perspective.
